Rev. Kevin Wood was recommended by the Search Committee and the Session issued a call for him to become our Senior Pastor. He answered that call affirmatively. He and his wife, Nancy moved to McKenzie May 10, 2014. His first Sunday to preach was scheduled for May 18, 2014. Rev. Wood was the church planter for the Stonegate Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Edmond, Oklahoma. He was pastor of Hillview CP Church in Louisville, Ky and has pastored Cumberland Presbyterian Churches in Greeneville, Tn, Fairfield, Il, and most recently in Knoxville, Tn. Rev. Wood graduated from Bethel University and Memphis Theological Seminary. He was ordained in 1980.
The Search committee was impressed with his genuineness and strong faith. The survey of the church revealed that we, as a body, want a strong preacher, a worship leader interested in evangelism and one who will do crisis counseling. The committee first listened to a service Rev. Wood conducted and felt enough interest to ask for another sermon. Both sermons, and the short devotional he prepared for the interview, displayed a deep connection between the scripture and today’s world. He uses multiple scriptures and ties them together in an interesting and meaningful manner. As diverse as the search committee was, they agreed that the sermons were some of the best and most thought-provoking they had heard. The youth on the committee also felt comfortable listening and talking with him.
